New WAHMS: You Don’t Have To Pay For Everything
August 6, 2007
Any information in this post will definitely be old hat to established wahms. But I am still new enough to have pretty fresh memories of what it was like when I first started learning about internet business. I was (and still am!) always so thankful when those who had gone before me passed on bits of helpful information. It was probably a small, insignificant piece of information for most of them at the time, but to me it was like a gold mine!
For instance, (Note: established Wahms, please feel free to have a good chuckle at my expense when you read this
) I remember signing up for every free report and piece of information I could find. Most were delivered in a nice, clean format called PDF. When I started thinking about offering my very own first free report to build my mailing list, I remember thinking “man, if I just knew how to make those slick-looking PDF documents” and of course I wondered how much it would cost me to do it when I did learn.
I stumbled on in my little venture and eventually made my report available in, I’m not even sure now, but I think just as a Word document. My good friend and colleague Aurelia Williams of ParentingMyTeen.com had signed up for my list and when she received the report, she emailed me to say how much she liked it. I asked for her “honest” critique of it and she said “well, why don’t you make it into a PDF…you know you can do that online for free at http://www.neevia.com“. I was completely blown away! Something that turned out to be so simple had seemed huge to me until I was exposed to it. And on top of that, it was free. It reminded me of when I was still teaching high school mathematics and I would tell my students how even the simplest of concepts could be difficult until we became familiar with them.
So, in that same spirit of hoping to help some new wahms discover some free resources that can be quite valuable I thought I would mention just a few that I’ve learned about. For doing some keyword research, there is http://www.inventory.overture.com as well a a free trial version of WordTracker at http://www.wordtracker.com.
If you decide to conduct a teleseminar, you can use http://www.freeconference.com and have up to 100 participants at no cost.
Angela Wills of StarVa.com does a wonderful little thing about free tools on the net called Free Tool Friday. Every Friday she posts about some free tool available for use in internet business. Check it out on her blog.
I know there are dozens of other free and valuable resources out there and I’m certainly not implying that the ones I’ve mentioned are the best at what they do. I’m just passing along some that I’ve learned about that have been a huge help to me.
And finally, I would encourage new wahms to ‘just ask’ when confronted with a task or problem that you need help with. I have always found those with more experience to be very willing to answer questions and provide assistance to those of us with much learning left to do. And to all those of you who have done just that, many thanks to you!
