Got Skills? Need Money?
April 13, 2007
I’m often asked what business would be best for a telecommuter to start. Many telecommuters realize after a time of working at home that they’d actually rather be their own boss.
But, most telecommuters fear losing their hourly wage and they don’t know if they can step away from the wage way of making money. The good news for telecommuters is that service based businesses are growing in need.
There are countless small business owners who need the services of service business owners such as copy writers, virtual assistants, transcriptionists, and ghost writers. So, if the current or former telecommuter has skills that they can apply to any one of those businesses they can make the move from employee to boss much easier.
Why is that? Because a service based business almost always charges per hour. And if not per hour then they charge per project. These options are much like how you’re paid working a job at home.
The best news? As a business owner you set your own rates, you decide what people you want to work with, how many hours you’d like to work, or even when you work. A service based business really is the best of both worlds for the telecommuter who’d rather own a business, but wants to keep their hourly income.
If you want to learn more about starting such businesses I’ve got the list of resources for you below.

What Are You Doing For Fun This Easter, WAHM?
April 6, 2007
I’ll be the first to say that my computer is like my life support system and without it I have withdrawal symptoms but I also have a family that wants to spend some time with me as well. Really, can a computer give you hugs and kisses like your kids can? I think not. LOL
For this Easter weekend I am GOING to make sure that I don’t turn my computer on and just have some fun with my boys. My sons are excited about the Easter bunny coming and I know he won’t let them down.
Last year that dang ol’ bunny left bunny tracks (made out of baking soda) all over my house and my oldest son thought I was going to yell at him for making such a mess. It was a riot.
So, WAHM, are you going to take some time of this weekend and recharge?
Fun Way To Get More Traffic To Your Blog
April 6, 2007
I came across this really cool site today called Top Momma. I couldn’t resist and submitted All WAHM and am waiting for approval.
Basically, you upload an image that you feel would be appealing enough for someone to click on. By clicking on the image they are forwarded to your blog. The site is based on popularity. The more popular your picture is the longer you stay the Top Momma.
Just a fun little site that I wanted to share. ![]()
Using Your Business Card Real Estate
April 1, 2007
Every business owner should have a business card, even if you are a work at home mom. If you are in business, you need a business card. The trick to business cards is making sure it is useful and eye-catching. We have already discussed the importance of having a solid brand identity, so now you need to transfer that onto your business card. What is the most important thing about your business card????
THE REAL ESTATE…
Here are a few suggestions on how to make the best of your business card real estate.
1. Make sure your brand identity is reflected on your business
* your logo, web address, company email and tagline (if you have one) should be on your card
2. Don’t forget to add your company’s general information
* mailing address, phone and fax number, etc
3. NEVER LEAVE THE BACK OF YOUR BUSINESS CARD BLANK
* This is very important. When business cards are left blank on the back, they most often get used as scratch note paper.
* Instead of leaving the back of your cad blank, try putting useful information about your company on there.
For Instance:
* If you have a BLOG, put your blog address on the back of the card
* If you have a PODCAST, put your podcast info on the back of the card
* If you have a NEWSLETTER, put your newsletter info on the back of the card
* You could also list 3 bullet items that summarize your business services
Your business card is a tool that speaks for your company when you are not around to do so, so make it standout!
