It is normal to lack motivation every now and then. It happens to all of use when we slow down and become unfocused. But there is always the case when you become full of ideas and overly motivated that you can lose focus. Multi-tasking may be a better type of motivation though as you will get more done. Follow some of these tips on how to stay motivated by staying focused.
Set you goals for the day and write them down. Once you do this each morning you are putting the action out there and defining the direction in which you want to go for that day. Once goals are written down on paper you are increasing the chance of reaching your goals.
Choose a niche market that you can target for the day so that you can keep focused on the tasks that you need to apply. Narrow down your market as much as you can. For example, if you run a coaching business and you want to help people to learn how to work from home efficiently, then perhaps you can target a certain field such as virtual assistants or web designers. You will gain a good reputation as an expert within the field and be able to help people with specific plans while helping them succeed.
Plan and write you business plan. Every business whether it’s a pizzeria or a 5 star hotel, needs a business plan. A business plan helps you get organized and it is a summary of how a business will be built and managed. If you create a business plan for your home business you will also find it easier to succeed because it provides goal orientation and organization. A business plan will usually show the estimated timeline of how and when the owner will make profit from the service.
It is best to avoid all distractions within your work days. Set a schedule for yourself and keep committed to it. If you do not require phone use for your work then unplug the phone in the day. If you work from home turn off TV’s, music and any other type of distractions. Ask your family or roommates to respect the fact that you are working and you need time just like regular 9-5 people do. Stay disciplined with yourself and avoid surfing the net, reading blogs or emailing, unless you need to for your line of work. Limit your emailing and surfing time to certain times of the day. Limit the amount of internet you use while you are working and you will find that you are much more productive in the day.
Prioritize the tasks you have set out to do. Write them in order of importance and make sure you place the most imperative tasks at the beginning of your lists. The most challenging tasks should always be done first and foremost. Some tasks you might find can be left for a day or two, other have to be taken care of immediately to ensure your success in business.
When you find that there are chores that need to be done and you do not have time for them, it might be a good idea to share the work with someone. For example, if you are a freelance writer that has numerous contracts on the go, outsource for another write to do some of the work required.
