Time To Get A Job Outside of the House

A few days ago I had written about my wrist being sore from the long hours that I spend at my computer. Well, the slight pain became so much worse that I wasn’t able to use my wrist for 2 days - trying to change my 2 year old’s diapers was quite a challenge for me, any little movement made me wince with the pain.
I kept my wrist brace on and took some Tylenol for the pain and counted the hours until my husband would be home from work to take over for me so I could rest my pitiful wrist that was swollen.
I won’t go into the long story but my husband mentioned that he thought it was time for me to give up working on the computer and get a job outside of the home.
What? I was absolutely NOT for that solution.
We had a long talk and I had to lay things out for him, again, the reason why I work from home. Here are some points I flung at him. ![]()
1. The boys can stay home with me and not have to be in daycare full time.
2. I’m making more money from home than I would be outside of the home, which would have to include the expenses of daycare.
3. I enjoy working from home, being my own boss, having my own hours and not having some jerky boss tell me when I can leave to be with my kids, etc.
He agreed with all of those points but it came back to the situation of my hurting wrist. I have been working about 10 hours a day at the computer - now that isn’t a solid 10 hours because I stop here and there to take care of the boys and have a little playtime but I go back and forth throughout the day.
So I have decided, which I’ve been telling myself to do for a while and now my wrist has finally pushed me to it, that I am going to cut back on the computer even though I absolutely love it.
I’m also going to revamp my current computer desk by adding a negative slope keyboard tray instead of the standard one that I’m using. I did some research and found an interesting page discussing the proper way to sit and position your body while at a keyboard.

My wrist is starting to feel better and I want it to stay that way. So I’m off to find a new keyboard tray and then my computer will be shut off for the rest of the day.

Wendy, having been there myself I was told to do tylenol and advil (staggered, not at the same time) as the advil (ibuprofen) is an anti-inflammatory. I finally went and got myself an ergo keyboard and a roller mouse and while they were a little odd to get used to, it’s made all the difference. Good luck!
